Obituary for Elsie Currie

Elsie  Currie
Elsie Martin Currie, 98, formerly of Hobart and Unadilla , N.Y. died at VanDuyn in Syracuse, NY on Friday, December 11, 2015 She had moved to Marcellus, NY in 2004 to be closer to her family.

She was born on July 11, 1917 in Harpersfield, New York, daughter of the late Frederick H. Martin and Floy (Winnie) Martin. After graduating from Hobart High School, she was employed at the Sheffield Creamery in Hobart.

On April 20, 1961 Elsie married Courtney Currie of Bovina Center, NY. He predeceased her on June 24, 1977.

Elsie devoted her life to caring for and helping family members and others in the community. She was active in the church and community activities in Hobart and later in Unadilla, as well as senior citizen organizations in the Unadilla area.

She is survived by niece Dawn Harkness of Poughkeepsie and niece and primary caretaker, Judy Harkness of Marcellus, Maureen Harkness of North Syracuse. and several great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers L. Francis and Frederick W. Martin, sister Margaret Martin Harkness and nephews Robert Martin and James and Jerry Harkness.

As per Elsie's wishes, there were no calling hours. Burial and committal will be in the Currie family plot in Bovina Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Elsie's memory to Marcellus Ambulance or the First United Methodist Church of Unadilla.
