Obituary for Allan Peter Miskell

Allan Peter Miskell, 63 of North Brook Heights, passed away Wednesday April 22, 2015 at Auburn Community Hospital following an extensive illness.
Peter lived most of his life in the area. He was a Graduate of Auburn Central High School, class of 1969. He briefly attended Auburn Community College, decided he wanted to follow different goals, which took him to construction work, and later working at Sylvania Electric.
In June 1973 Allan Peter suffered a mental breakdown, which led to years of psychological and social challenges and changes.
He valiantly battled with his illness for 42 years, had many ups and downs, but always bounced back. Along with growing physical problems, he became multi challenged, never ceasing to amaze his doctors, nurses and others with his resiliency and ability to adapt. He was referred to as the "Energizer Bunny" because he just kept going and going.
During his struggles with mental illness, he worked at Red Lobster and Provisions in Syracuse. When told he might have to go on Oxygen for his lung problems, and that he would no longer be able to be employed, he quit smoking cold turkey. Unfortunately he wound up on oxygen, and lost the job he enjoyed.
Peter is survived by his parents Allan and Helen Cymbrak Miskell, his sister Dr. Carol (Eric) Simmons, Aunt Carolyn Cymbrak and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Michael Theodore Miskell, maternal grandparents Peter and Ustina Cymbrak, and paternal grandparents Charles and Anna Miskell.
"As Peter's parents, we cannot give enough praise to the many people who worked with and helped him both physically and mentally. Funeral services for Peter will be at 9:30 A.M. Saturday from the Plis Funeral Home, and 10 A.M. in SS Peter & Paul Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call Friday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home, 220 State St.
Contributions may be made in Peter's memory to the SS Peter & Paul Church renovation Fund, or to NAMI of Cayuga County, 17 Lansing St., Auburn.
