Obituary for Joseph A. Giacolone

Joseph A. Giacolone, 90, of Auburn, and Cape Coral, Florida, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at his residence, following a long illness.
Mr. Giacolone was a life resident of the Auburn area, the son of the late Jasper and Rose Inga Giacolone. Until his retirement he was employed by New Process Gear. He was an Army veteran of WW II. He was a Private First Class with the 440th Engineer Depot Company, and landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. Joe enjoyed many years wintering in Florida with his beloved wife Mary. He loved taking care of his yard, was a wonderful cook, and a caring babysitter to all of his nieces and nephews.
He Is survived by a brother John Giacolone, sister-in-law Adele Feocco Giacolone, and nieces and nephews Anthony Giacolone, Patricia Giacolone, David (Kim) Giacolone, Elaine Giacolone, Michael Giacolone, Roseanne Smith, James Giacolone , Linda (Bill) Gentilcore, Stephen Kmyta, Karen May, Rocco (Cari) Giacolone, John (Emelda) Giacolone, Jomarie (William Treat ) Alano, Evelyn (Chester) Hanson, Jeannie Malloy, James Santilli, Dr. Americo (Judy) Santillo, Carl (Jeanine) Santillo, Jamie (Alan Gale) Santillo, and Lorrie (Jim) Shepard
Besides his parents, He was predeceased by his wife of sixty-eight years Mary Santillo Giacolone, an infant son, his brothers Nick, Sam, Anthony Jasper and Rocco, his sisters Carmella Borst, Mary DeVey, Anna and Rose Giacolone, and a niece Valerie Giacolone.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care given Joe by his caretakers Kim, Danielle, Barbara, Missy and Mary Ann.
"Joe embraced the children and grandchildren of his nieces and nephews. Everyone found a home at Uncle Joe's and Aunt Mary's."
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 A.M. Saturday in Sacred Heart Church. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery Mausoleum. There are no calling hours.
Contributions may be made in Joe's memory to the Finger Lakes Center for Living Activities Account, 20 Park Ave., Auburn 13021, or Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn 13021.
