Obituary for Virginia Florence "Jinny" Tucker

Virginia (Jinny) Florence Tucker left this world on March 14, 2013 to be with her beloved husband Archie. Jinny was born to Arthur and Emma Jockley on October 2, 1921, in Rochester NY, the third of six daughters. She attended Holy Family School and Madison High School, where she was accepted into the National Honor Society, an achievement for which she was very proud. Virginia worked for Rosenbloom Real Estate after graduation, and in 1943 she traveled to San Francisco to marry the love of her life, MM1 Archie Tucker, who was serving in the US Navy. Jinny worked for Southern Pacific Railroad in the accounting department before heading back east to Rochester, NY, for the birth of her daughter, Susan, in 1945. Jinny was a homemaker and steady hand to her children in Greece, NY, and a wonderful mentor to a generation of grandchildren at their camp in Allegany County, which she and Archie carved out of the wilderness. After Archie's retirement, they moved to Naples, NY, for 16 years and then to Dansville, NY. Jinny was an accomplished piano player and artist, winning many awards and selling many paintings in the Southern Tier. She was predeceased by her Archie in 2009, daughter Susan Strong in 2003, and sisters Evelyn Hale and Shirley Mayer.
She is survived by her son David (Helen) Tucker of Marcellus, NY, sisters Arlene Richards and Kathy Mitchell of Rochester, and Doris Herman of Idaho. She also leaves six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family greatly appreciates the tender care given by the Staff at Van Dyne Home and Hospital 3rd Floor North.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday March 20th at Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral and Cremation Chapels, 1075 Long Pond Road, Greece NY.
Burial will be held in the spring for both Archie and Jinny at Rose Ridge Cemetery in Naples, NY, where they will be laid to rest next to their daughter, Susan Strong.
Local arrangements entrusted to Plis Funeral Home, Marcellus.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Jinny's memory to Catholic Charities of Rochester.
