Alexandra Wolczek, 87, of Throop, died Wednesday, July, 13, 2016 at The Commons on St. Anthony.
She was born October 1, 1928, in Sitnik, Poland, which is near the city of Brest, the daughter of the late Stefan and Eugenia Waszczuk. During WW II, her family moved to Belorussia, Nizhniy Tagil, Uzbekistan and finally to Krasnovodsk, where she was hospitalized with Typhus, while her family moved on. Recovered and released, she was alone at the age of 13. She went on to Uzbekistan where she contracted Dysentery, on to Iran, Pakistan, and rejoined her family in Tanganika in 1944.
Following the war, her family moved to England where she met her husband Walter. In 1958 they emigrated to Auburn with their two children. She worked at Columbian Rope, and General Products in Union Springs. She was dedicated to her husband Walter, her children, grandchildren, and family in Canada and England. She helped Walter build his dream house in Throop in the 60s. She had a strong work ethic, loved to entertain and socialize. She also loved cooking, gardening and flowers, until the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
Alexandra is survived by her daughter Vera of Auburn, son Roger of Prattville, Alabama, granddaughter Diana (Christopher) Evans of Fort Walton Beach, FL, six nieces and nephews in Wales, UK, the offspring of her brother Eugene. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Walter in 1999, and her brothers Stanley, Eugene and Bogdan.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wolczek will be at 10 A.M. Friday in SS Peter & Paul Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Plis Funeral Home, 220 State St..
