Obituary for Michael S. Speck

Michael S.  Speck
Michael S. Speck, 91, of Auburn died Thursday, February 2, 2017. Mr. Speck was a native of Ganister, PA, the son of the late Frank and Elsie Monark Speck. He has resided in the Auburn area for the past 80 years. He retired from General Electric Auburn, where he was an electrical engineer, and also worked for PowerEx. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, serving at the Battle of the Bulge, and received two Bronze Stars.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, where he was a former member of the Church Council. He was a member of the St. Nicholas War Veterans, and the “R” Club. He was an avid and accomplished woodworker.
He is survived by his daughter Nancy (John) Baumes, his sons David Speck, MD and Rev. Michael (Julie) Speck DDS, all of Auburn, his grandchildren Steven and Katie Baumes, Barbara, Michael, Peter and Christina Speck, a sister-in-law Mary Ann Sopchak, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Anne Sopchak Speck in March 2016, his sisters Mary Strong and Elsie Kondratick, and his five brothers Alex, Joseph, John, Frank and Andrew Speck.
Funeral services for Mr. Speck will be at 9 A.M. Monday from the Plis Funeral Home, and 9:30 A.M. in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Half Acre. Friends are invited to call Sunday from 2 to 4:30 P.M. at the funeral home, 220 State St., Auburn.
