Obituary for William J. Schneider

William James Schneider, 93, of Marcellus, passed away Monday at Community Hospital. Born in
Syracuse, Bill was a lifelong resident of Marcellus and a graduate of Marcellus High School. Following
high school, he entered military service joining the Army Air Corps during WW II. He is a lifetime
member of the Ralph Share Post 297 American Legion in Marcellus. Bill worked most of his life as a
carpenter at Allied Chemical, retiring in 1986. He loved the game of baseball, as a child he and his father
would frequent summer baseball games being played in the Post Standard League. He came to be an
avid fan of the New York Yankees, never missing a televised game, loving every inning, although his
frequent commentary about the current Yankees manager was quite colorful and less than supportive.
Bill loved the game of golf and played often, but most of all, he loved time with his children and
grandchildren.
Bill is predeceased by his wife Eleanor in 2008 and his son James in 2004. Surviving are his children
Richard (Kathy) of Camillus, Thomas (Marilyn) and Lisa Young (Kevin) of Marcellus, grandchildren:
Kristin (Shawn), Nathan, Sarah (Jesse), Tyler (Kylee), Adam (Monica), Jason, Brian, Eric, Tim (Erin), Laurie
(Andy) and Katie, 9 great grandchildren and a half dozen really nice nieces and nephews
Friends and family may call Friday February 24 from 4 to 7p.m. at the Plis Funeral Home 33
North Street, Marcellus. A funeral service will be held at 10:00a.m. Saturday February 25 at 10:00
a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church Marcellus.
Bill will be laid to rest in the Highland Cemetery, where his two sons used to do a hell of a job mowing
the lawn there.
