Archpriest Stephen Charles Mack passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Matthew House.
Father was born in Cohoes, NY on September 10, 1953, the son of Stephen and the late Helen Gydamashuk Mack. He was a 1971 graduate of Keveny Memorial Academy, and St. Tikhon’s Seminary in 1976. He was ordained to the Holy Deaconate on November 23, 1980. He married the former Barbara Nystoriak in 1978. Father Stephen was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on July 8, 1984. Following ordination he became Rector of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Auburn, NY on December 20, 1984, and served the parish until his death.
He was Spiritual Advisor of the District FROC and Junior FROC (Federated Russian Orthodox Club), and also served on the Board of the Auburn Human Rights Commission and Cayuga County Homesite. Father loved spending time with his family, cruising, traveling, and was an avid Yankee fan.
In addition to his wife Matushka Barbara, he is survived by two cherished children, Christopher David Mack of Auburn and Tanya Nicole Mack of Wilmington, NC and his beloved granddaughter Loralie Rose Mack of Auburn. He is also survived by his father Stephen Mack of Scotia, NY, several nieces nephews, great nieces and nephews. Besides his mother he was predeceased by his sister Barbara Anne Mack Rimanosky in 2000.
Friends are invited to call Friday from 3 to 6 P.M. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church , 30 Cross St., Auburn. Orders of Priest Burial will be offered at 6 P.M. Friday evening at the church. A Funeral Liturgy with Panahyda will be offered at 9:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Nicholas. Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Aurelius, NY
