Helen B. Gonza, 96, of Auburn, died Sunday January 28, 2018 at the Centers at St. Camillus.
Helen was a life resident of the Auburn area, the daughter of the late Wasyl and Mary Ewanechko Bazarnik. She retired after a long career as a cook at The Home in Auburn. She enjoyed baking and gardening, and loved sitting on her deck and watching everything going on around her. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.
Helen was married 45 years to her husband Stephen until his death in 1993.
She is survived by her daughters Jacquelyn Gonza of Camillus
and MaryElizabeth “Meg” (Brian) Gross of N. Andover, MA, and her son Gary (Zoe) Gonza of Camillus. She is also survived by two grandchildren Caleb Gross of N. Andover, MA and Mackensie Gross of Brooklyn, NY, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Julia Panko, Anna Juli, Antoinette Fries and her brother Michael Bazarnik.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gonza will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday at the Plis Funeral Home, 220 State St. Auburn. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Wednesday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made in her memory to the Food Bank of Central New York, 7066 Interstate Island Rd., Syracuse, NY 13209.
