Joyce M. Howlett, 91, of Marcellus passed away after a long illness, into the arms of our Lord on March 8, 2018. Born in Syracuse to the late William and Genevieve Amidon, she was the Valedictorian of her graduating class at Onondaga Central School.
Joyce was a loving wife, mother and grandmother with many interests in her community, she was a member of the Marcellus Gardening Club the Red Hat Society and a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church where she was also a Eucharistic minister. She was always at the ready to help anybody and willing to cook or bake for bake sales or help out with others. Many interest kept her busy along with gardening, crafts, school concerts and plays and her grandchildren. She also had a love for music always humming tunes. We will miss our humming mother and her baking.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years Frank, children Daniel of Alaska, Darleen (Jack) Thompson of Marietta, Frank, Jr. of Louisville, KY, Julie Holmes of Syracuse, and Elizabeth (Lyman) Fritz of Montana along with 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was also predeceased by a baby, her son Walter, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
Service for Joyce will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday March 17 at the Plis Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, 33 North St. Marcellus.
In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
